Constellations: Recognized regions of the celestial sphere containing groups of stars that appear to form patterns when viewed from Earth. The zodiac signs are named for twelve constellations associated with the ecliptic, although the tropical zodiac signs and astronomical constellations do not occupy identical boundaries.
