Ascendant (also known as Rising Sign): The zodiac sign and exact degree rising on the eastern horizon at the moment of birth. The Ascendant begins the first house in most house systems and is traditionally associated with outward expression, physical presence, first impressions, and one's instinctive approach to the world.
